Did you know… ? November, 2020

Surprise! CBS’s Channel 2 here in Chicago hosted the first national debate in 1960 with Kennedy vs Nixon, and Presidential debates would never be the same. Since the 2020 election has been such a big deal, I thought it only fitting I host this month’s trivia on the topic!

At McClurg Court Studios, it wasn’t just about who had the most talent, or who had the most experience. Because that night, it was about who presented better. Nixon looked washed out and sickly. Kennedy, who was rather handsome and especially so by comparison, was cool with wearing stage makeup and wore a smart black suit.

And pretty much just like today, thanks to Chicago, and Cook County as a whole, Illinois’ electoral votes went to Kennedy, who of course became our 35th President.

(And interestingly/coincidentally enough, that same year, the Northwest Expressway was opened. Three years later, it was renamed the Kennedy Expressway almost immediately after his assassination by Chicago City Council’s unanimous vote.)

Did you know wire fraud is real? I don’t want you to become a victim!

Thanks again for reading, and I wish you all a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving! They’re saying to celebrate distantly this year, and I know it’s going to be especially hard on many of us to be away from our family and friends (including us!). So give yourselves extra time for self care.

Take care of yourselves, and check in on your neighbors- especially the elderly and those with disabilities. If you’re under quarantine and need help with getting by, even if it’s just to have someone to talk to, let me know. I’ll find a way to help. Black Lives Matter.

And please remember, I always have time for you and your referrals!
